Children's
Program "This isn't your father's tap dancing..." ~ Libertyville News
Young dancers will be exposed to a variety of musical styles - classical, traditional, multicultural, and contemporary. They are encouraged to listen and explore music through movement, and to hear it rhythmically. Each child’s unique creativity and imagination is valued in this program. If you've noticed your child clapping to the beat or banging on pots and pans, you may have a tap dancer in the making! Music & Movement Tap (Ages 3&4) or Pre-Tap (Kindergarteners) are great fun for kids, allowing them to make music and dance with their feet at the same time! We'll focus on lots of beginning steps with plenty of fun and rhythm thrown in! BOYS ONLY! (Ages 6+)
YOUTH (Ages 6+) Tap 1 students will focus on basic tap vocabulary, including all the necessary skills they will need to begin learning the different styles and rhythms of tap. Also included is beginning improvisational work and basic music theory. Tap 2 dancers will begin to be exposed to various styles of tap, from Broadway to Funk. More complex rhythms and musical styles are introduced, and improvisational work is continued. For dancers who have studied for several years already and are looking for a challenge, our Tap 2/3 class and our Tap 3/4 class offer the opportunity to fine tune your technique, to experiment with new sounds, steps and rhythms, and to learn more about the historical foundations of tap and its masters. A big emphasis is placed on rhythm tap and the execution of complex timing, musical phrasing and listening. Tap 5 is for the most advanced and professional level tappers. This class is taught at a level that assumes many years of tap experience. Improvisation and musicality are the main focus, with each individual dancer being given the freedom to explore their own personal style and rhythmic voice.
TEENS/ADULTS (Ages 13+) Already taken a semester or two, maybe studied when you were younger, but need some "brushing" up on your tap? Join us for our fun Tap 1/2 class where you can experiment with new sounds, steps and rhythms, and to learn more about the historical foundations of tap and its masters. For older teens or adults who have studied for several years, our Intermediate Adult Tap (Levels 2 to 4) is a great place to polish your technique, work on your rhythmic and improvisation skills, and push yourself while having fun! |
