Electric Guitar The direction of private lessons is often unique for each student, and determined by a combination the student’s musical interests and goals together with parental desires for musical education. There are a variety of approaches we use involving workbooks and exercises, however we often use the songs students want to play as a basis for their lessons. Nearly every song will provide a good frame work for teaching basic technique and chords that build a foundation. Since the guitar is a challenging instrument to play, using music that students have a personal interest in often helps keep them focused to work through the challenges. As their technical abilities increase and the challenges of learning to play decrease, we begin to introduce basic music education. Students begin to learn about what chords and notes they are playing and why they are important. We continue to encourage students to learn as much about music theory as execution. Our goal is that each student who studies the guitar becomes a musician, not simply a guitar player who can impress friends and family by playing their latest favorite songs heard on the radio. This is a process which takes time, but one that can be fun and rewarding.
